Sushi, Saki, Hot!

Lizard and I passed on the usual Thursday night meal of veggie burgers and canned fruit to venture out and explore Ferndale's newest culinary offering - Sakana Sushi Lounge. THINK: the Bosco, but brighter, more spacious, and less smokey (actually smoke free), i say best. The decor is simple and clean with booths along the north wall, and several lounge style communal eating areas in the front and rear (with coffee tables surrounded by cushy benches, couches, and stools). Also, 2 high-top standing tables and approximately a dozen places at the bar. Yes, Sushi is not the only treat being served at this counter. Sakana has the papers to distribute all your favorite adult spirits. The sushi was devine and reasonably priced (for sushi that is). Sakana offers a large menu (for sushi bar that is) with your standard sushi, but also a variety of house specials (a few of which are unfortunately named after local communities and sports teams such as the Detroit, Ferndale, Lions, Pistons, and Wolverine rolls). All the fish is very fresh. Which we where informed (by the mature Asian man that visited our table at the conclusion of our meal, whom we could only assume was the owner) is overnighted daily from Hawaii, i say bonus. I suggest the "Island" specialty Maki roll - inside avacado, tuna, and pinapple, outside covered in salmon and sesame seeds, i say yum! There will be no returning to the Little Tree now that such a ultra-hip, delicious alternative is only a short stroll away from the Maplehurst. If there was one major drawback in tonight's dining experience, it would be awful Euro-techno satellite radio station playing throughout. THINK: gay dance party, i say worst.
